The City Hotel was built before the turn of the century, by the Applegate Family. It housed a millinery, then became the City Hotel, serving as a boarding house for miners.

In 1927, Frank & Mary Yelenick bought the building and changed the name to the Western Hotel, also later opening an liquor store in the west side.
